Fatehnagar Gurudwara: The Land Blessed with Serenity

Delhi is a cosmopolitan city which incorporates a healthy mix of traditional and modern cultures. There are many historical sites that Delhi boasts about. Each ancient heritage monuments and place of worship has a unique story that not many of us are aware of. One of the popular place of worship in West Delhi is Fateh Nagar Gurudwara popular by the name of Chhote Sahibzadey Gurudwara.

Initially, this Gurudwara was a home of an elderly lady, and it is believed that she dreamt of Sikh Gurus and they hinted her to turn her house into a place of worship. Also known as Gurudwara Baba Jorawar Singh Ji, it was established by Mata Amar Kaur Ji and Sardar Gujar Singh Ji, in their house in Fateh Nagar as Fateh Nagar Gurudwara in, New Delhi.

The architecture of the Fateh Nagar Gurudwara is influenced by Golden Temple. Although it is not as spacious as Golden temple and doesn’t even have any water bodies that is considered as its integral part and generally describes a gurudwara. Fateh Nagar Gurudwara place of worship in West Delhi is extremely popular among the residents and its neighboring areas.

Initially, Kirtan was done by ladies of Fateh Nagar locality. If anyone approached Amar Kaur Ji and informed her about their troubles, then she would suggest them to conduct path or asked them to visit Fatehgarh Sahib where chhote Sahibzadey were bricked alive in the wall. Later on, Mata Amar Kaur Ji and her husband S. Gujar Singh Ji left for Punjab and handed over the management of the Gurudwara to the committee.

People visit Fatehnagar Gurudwara Sahib from faraway places and one thing that is more appreciable is that the devotees are from all religions and castes. They organized Langars irrespective of their religion.

It is a belief that those who conduct “chaliya” in Fateh Nagar gurudwara they are granted all their wishes. This chaliya is conducted on Tuesday. There is a special pomp and show that can be seen on Tuesdays the whole market undergoes a different experience.

It is said that if one prays at the Fateh Nagar Gurdwara for five consecutive Tuesdays their wish is fulfilled and whoever comes here with a sincere heart never goes empty-handed. Sincere prayers are never left unheard. And moreover, visiting this place bestows a calmness and tranquility to the mind.
